Day 4 epic camping trip

We are almost to the Grand Canyon, but before we get to that amazing sight, we decided to stop at the Petrified Forest National Park, right off highway 40 on the way to Flagstaff.  I remember one of my childhood friends had taken a trip out to this National Park and it always fascinated me.  What better experience for the kids than to spend a few hours learning how wood, shells, and bone can be turned into stone.

The landscape was surreal.  The Painted Desert borders the Petrified Forest and so many colors, layers, and otherworldly landscapes surround the area.  I’m really thankful we arrived during a cool time of year.  It seemed 85 degrees was not too bad for the humans or canine while hiking the .8 loop in the Crystal Forest.

Overall, this was a fabulous quick educational stop on our tour of multiple National Parks.
