May 29th, 2019: Day one of our 2 month trip landed us in Fort Stockton, TX.  We have decided to limit our travel days to 4 hours ‘Google Map’ time, which roughly translates to 5-6 hours ‘real life RV towing time’.  Some of you might not know, but trailer tires are only rated for speeds between 55-65 miles an hour, with 65 being for only the really good tires.  We did replace our 55 MPH rated ones with Goodyear Endurance, but even with new quality tires towing a trailer on a Texas highways at 80 MPH isn’t a safe option.  So, we keep it slow and steady!

We left San Antonio around 2pm and arrived at Fort Stockton RV Park just past 7pm.  The park host were both friendly and helpful.  Because the restaurant on site was closing in just 30 minutes, they suggested a lovely locally owned Tex-Mex restaurant for us to try after unhooking the trailer.  The food was good, the staff extremely friendly, and we were able to make a quick tour of the town before heading back to the RV to give Cody one last romp at the dog park.

We only stayed one night, but found Fort Stockton RV Park clean, safe, and extremely well shaded for a West Texas location.  The bathhouse was really nice featuring a huge bench, toilet, shower, sink, and plenty of room to change, dry hair, etc.  Bathhouses and restrooms can be hit or miss.  This was a big hit.  We didn’t want to hook up everything in the RV for a one night stay, so using the facilities at the park was really convenient.  The dog walk area was just as nice, with water and a secure fenced in area for even the fittest fetch fanatic to burn off his energy.  Cody gave it 2 paws up!

We would absolutely stay at this park again if we are ever in the area.  With many features of a more expensive park, such as 24 hour laundry, you cannot beat the price of $40 a night for the Good Sam’s rate.
