I’ve made a short video of our travel trailer for those who want to know where we will be living for the next few months. Staying at hotels and short term home rental was an option we did consider for this trip, but having our own comfortable bed, bathroom, and place to cook meals was much more appealing. Long ago I was a hard core camping person, but those days have passed. I like my ultra comfortable memory foam bed, reliable AC and heating, a microwave, a refrigerator, a 4 solid walls to keep out the wildlife. The best way to combine both the comforts of home in a mobile package, was either an Recreational Vehicle (RV) or travel trailer.
For many years we owned a 25 foot long RV. It was a great little vacation home / dog show mobile, but it was pushing 20 years old and did not have a slide, so we sold it back in 2017 and picked up the recently released 2018 Rockwood Mini Lite 2509s. What led us to a travel trailer was the fact that 1. RV are far more expensive and 2. We would need to tow a car or plan to drive the RV all day, every day. I was due for a new vehicle anyway, so we purchased a 2015 Suburban with a specific tow package, then narrowed down the field based on what the Suburban could safely tow.
We’ve owned the trailer several years, and I have made a few notification. Most of the changes I point out during the video tour. This trailer has far more space than anything we have previously owned, so what might be small for some is luxurious for us. Of course, the longest we have stayed in it has been a week. Ask me again how spacious it is in August!
I am in awe of your organization and prep for your trip. You and your family are just plain amazing people. Have a fun and safe journey. The Aldridges look forward to seeing your adventures.
Hi, Becky. How do your dogs stretch their legs on a trip like this? Do you just count on finding a fenced field where they can let loose?
Your trip looks like a lot of fun!
Most of the locations have fenced dog parks. For the next 3 days we are in a great location with vast wilderness around us and the owners are ok with friendly dogs being off leash. My dogs are all highly trained obedience dogs with exceptional manners, so hopefully we won’t run into any issues. Today Cody was fetching his ball along the base of a huge sandstone rock formation. I’m more worried about cactus in the paw over anything else!!
